Thanks for stopping by BetterThanRockBand.com. I want to be the first to say that I love the game Rock Band, but the play on words for this site came from watching friends of mine actually trying to learn to play the instruments they enjoy “playing” in the video game in real life.
There’s a big difference between pressing the buttons on the guitar in the game and actually taking online guitar lessons or bass guitar lessons in the real world.
Frets are far different then buttons, and don’t even get me started on the drums. While I haven’t had a friend try to take online drum lessons yet as someone who has set in front of an actual drum kit and tried to pound out a tune it is not easy.
One thing that these video games haven’t incorporated yet is the piano, but I also know of some friends who do take piano lessons and they’ve told me, as I’ve experienced trying to tap out a tune on the piano, there is a lot to learn before you can be proficient like you are in the game.
Where can you start if you are one of those people who’s interested in learning an instrument and you’ve been inspired by playing the video game Rock Band or Guitar Hero?
Well, more then likely it’s the Guitar that you’re inspired to pick up since it is the most popular instrument in the world to learn so let’s use that as an example.
As mentioned above there are online guitar lessons you can take and there is also a great selection of guitar lesson dvd courses available.
I’m not a beginner guitar player but I have used DVD’s to take blues guitar lessons at home and I found it to be a nice way to learn. It was less expensive then private lessons, require less time commitment since I was in control and I picked away at it at my own pace.
